Some Facts You Should Know About Beautiful Skin

Hehehe.. let me just say I am not someone who takes care of my face. For the past 29 years in my life.. my face cleansing regiment is cleanse. Full stop.

When i started using make up, I added and extra step. Moisturize.

Maybe it is because I am blessed with good skin. (Heh, that's me beside Ms Singapore International 2006) It is just like how people do not value health until they fall sick.

But I attended a training by a very experienced beautician who owns beauty salons all over Singapore and certain parts of China. This allowed me to understand SKIN CARE from a whole different perspective. Not to mention, the fact that I am nearing 30 makes me think twice about letting nature take its own course for my skin.

Since that day, I have been using a FULL set of skincare products and I am happy to announce that my skin has been looking more radiant than before.

Here are some tips about Beautiful Skin that I learnt that day:
  1. Did you know that beautiful and healthy skin is supposed to be supple, rosy, radiant, flawless and fine. Children under 10 years old would naturally have beautiful skin.

  2. Children over 10 may not have the same previlege as their skin will start to age. Thus as long as you use good quality, natural products, it is ok for children to start using face masks from as young as 11 years old! Prevention is better than cure!

  3. Did you know that the most common problems that people have with theirs skins are wrinkles, dryness, colour spots, pimples and blackheads.

  4. These are partially caused by some factors that we cannot control such as: sun, UV rays, ageing, pollution, dirt and weather.

  5. But they may also be caused by factors we CAN control.. like our lifestyle. Proper nutrition, good rest, exercise, emotional management, drinking enough water and staying away from medication are essential for good skin.

  6. Also, our skin is affected by the amount of time and effort we spend to take care of our skin and especially the products we use to cleanse, moisturize/hydrate and repair it.

  7. Your skin's natural protector is the top layer. It is a substance called Sebum that is produced when the oil glands releases oil and the oil is mixed with water. The PH value of the your healthy sebum is 5.5-5.8. Sebum will moisturize, prevent invasion of germs and protect your skin from the sun’s rays.

  8. When we use face wash that are too alkaline, or facial products that are too acidic, we are actually disrupting the PH value or our sebum and thus it will not be able to protect your skin well. She tested out some commonly used products and we found out that soap is way too alkaline.. and even some xx essence from a very well known company who has deep red packaging is highly acidic!

  9. If you feel that your skin is tight after you wash your face. It is likely that your face wash is too alkaline and has stripped your face of the protective layer. This protective layer takes about 8 hours to reform itself. If you wash your face twice a day, this would mean that your face will be exposed to germs without defence for 16 hours a day!

  10. When that happens, your skin will then be supseptable to invasion of germs and you will start to have pimples and blackheads. Unbalanced PH value of the skincare products that we use may destroy the sebum it and may also cause dryness, wrinkles and pigmentation.

Therefore, it is VERY IMPORTANT to PROTECT and REPAIR your skin.

Protect: For skin that has yet to have problems, one should learn to take care and start early prevention
